Firm Obtains Victory After Trial in Patent Settlement Agreement Dispute

In January 2018, the Firm’s Litigation and Intellectual Property practice groups tried a case in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York brought by an inventor and patent holder against the Firm’s  client, First Alert, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of smoke alarms.  The plaintiff claimed over $1 million as unpaid royalties under a settlement agreement.  On August 22, 2018, the Court issued a decision after a bench trial finding in favor of First Alert and dismissing plaintiff’s claim for breach of contract and an accounting.  The attorneys on the matter were Jeffrey H. Daichman and Barry Negrin.
