Jennifer M. Schmalz is a partner in the firm’s Labor and Employment practice group. She has extensive experience representing management in labor relations, employment law and employee benefits matters.
For unionized employers, she represents management at negotiations, grievance proceedings, mediations and arbitrations and provides day to day advice on contract interpretation and compliance. She has successfully litigated matters involving employment discrimination, wrongful termination, violations of restrictive covenants, breach of contract and wage and hour violations. She has represented clients in proceedings before the Department of Labor, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and many other state and local administrative agencies.
She has worked with clients in a wide variety of industries including travel and hospitality, real estate, transportation, financial services, health care, manufacturing, technology and not-for-profit corporations. An important component of her practice involves preventative advice and business planning. Ms. Schmalz has provided employers with training in current workplace issues including the prevention of discrimination and harassment in the workplace. She also has experience working with matters involving multiemployer health, pension and welfare funds and has litigated and successfully resolved ERISA matters.
While in law school, Ms. Schmalz was awarded the Jurisprudence Achievement Award in Labor Law and she served as a judicial extern at the National Labor Relations Board’s Division of Judges in New York City.
